If you’ve gotten your hands on the new iPhone X, you’re probably blown away by the new face mapping feature. But it’s not just for unlocking your phone (or making animated emojis). Companies have begun to take advantage of the technology in different ways.
Glasses maker Warby Parker is using face mapping to recommend glasses.
Here’s how it works:
- Download, then open the ‘Glasses by Warby Parker’ App
- Tap “Find Your Fit”
- The app will use the iPhone X’s TrueDepth camera to scan your face within the Warby Parker app.
- It then displays a custom list of glasses that it thinks will suit your face shape based on that data.
This is a step further from when the company used to ship you pairs of glasses to try on. In this instance, we get a better guess as to what would actually fit our faces. If only the company could take the technology a step further and let you “try on” the glasses via AR, like a filter in Snapchat.
Maybe in the next update.
If you’ve seen or used the suggestion feature in the Warby Parker app, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
