eBay has unveiled a new “Under $10” page on their site, featuring millions of products priced at ten bucks and under. The selection covers hundreds of categories, and all products offer free shipping and ‘Buy It Now’, meaning no bidding is required.
The page features trending searches like “Tech Under $3” and “$5 Sunglasses” across men’s and women’s apparel, fitness, home decor and more, according to the company’s press release.
The discount strategies follow Amazon’s move after they debuted a “$10 and under” section with small, inexpensive items in the women’s, men’s, electronics, gifts, home décor, household and watches categories. “$10 and Under” is available to all Amazon customers, Prime and non-Prime, who benefit from the free shipping.
The moves by eBay and Amazon are to counter moves by sellers like Walmart and Wish who have created destinations for shoppers looking for small, cheap items. The new spaces are also competing against the new trend of dollar stores which have been doing brisk business since the recession, with explosive store growth throughout the US, especially compared to the rest of the bricks and mortar retail sector.
