Honda’s Dream Drive Aims to Gamify Car Travel

At CES 2019, the Honda Corporation took the wraps off its new Dream Drive innovation. The concept aims to deliver a brand new in-vehicle driving experience.

Honda Dream Drive is a suite of apps for both driver and passenger. The apps were developed by the Honda Developer Studio and their partners based on concepts introduced at CES 2017.

Honda is partnering with Visa, MasterCard, and PayPal for payment solutions.  

The apps allow drivers and passengers to purchase items on the web like making restaurant reservations, getting movie tickets, or ordering food for pickup or delivery from GrubHub without reaching for their wallets. The concept is similar to General Motors’ Marketplace system.

Passengers will be able to enjoy mixed reality games, as well as watching movies and playing around with apps.

The concept is meant to not only provide entertainment for the car occupants but to also offer time-saving, convenient solutions for basic mundane tasks as they travel.

The key difference with Dream Drive is that the system awards points to each registered user, and the more people make use of the system the more rewards points they accumulate. These can subsequently be used to acquire voucher discounts with the brands that are on-board,  such as a free drink at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, extra popcorn with every movie ticket bought through Atom Films, or discounts on Chevron gas.

Honda will initially offer Car Play compatibility. An Android version is in the works.
